  • 1999 35Hp - Re-fit VRO or Not?

When I purchased my boat, it came with a low hours 35Hp 3-cyl 2-stroke Johnson. The original owner removed the VRO system and unfortunately it wasn't supplied.

I don't use the boat as often as I'd like. Sometimes it can be 6 months or more between outings. Mixing oil and fuel is no real problem, but dealing with the leftovers is becoming difficult.

Ideally, I'd like to re-fit the VRO system so I could fill my car tank with the left over fuel. This would require sourcing second hand VRO parts.

Is this a good idea? Any pitfalls to avoid?

    Good advice appreciated.

    Thanks.

Finding the parts would be the problem as all of the parts are no longer available. If you try to use used parts then carefully inspect all the parts and make sure they are working properly before switching to straight fuel, if you are only using the boat once or twice a year not sure it would be worth it.
