Unhappy 2004 70 hp 4 stroke engine

I have a 2004 70 hp johnson 4 stroke that has a check engine light alarm and will not start. It was running until the alarm came on then died and will not start back up. Any ideas???

Need to have it tested by your dealer to find what alarm was activated.

Found out that the alarm was 4-2 which pointed to camshaft out of position. On tear down, found that the large nut that holds the crankshaft pulley had come loose and caused the key on the pulley to wear and eventually let the pulley slip on the crankshaft shaft. This let the pulley bore wear egg shape and keyway was shot. This is a very poor design, as they have the large nut tightening c.w. and also the flywheel bolt tightening c.w. With the flywheel rotating c.w. this would lead to the large nut on the pulley being open to counter force and the possibility of loosening. which mine did. I have talked to another person who has the same engine and experienced the very same problem. His was covered by warranty which mine is not. Oh well.My engine has very few hours on it and this should not have happened. Very poor workmanship. Thanks for your reply.
