1963 18 HP Johnson cooling

I have a 1963 18 hp Johnson that my son and I bought. We got it running...motor fired right up but no cooling water exiting the engine so we shut it down. I'm thinking it's the impeller / water pump...any thoughts on where to start? I do have the maintenance manual but are there any things to look out for when we dig into this thing? Thanks.

Just follow the manual and remove the lower unit and replace the water pump. If you engine has a thermostat you might want to check that out also.
