Bearing Set Screw Question

IN the drawing for my Johnson 50HP DTLECA a bearing set screw is shown on the lower unit next to the cooling water intake. What is the function of the bearing set screw...and if it is loosened, what is the impact during normal oil change. The drawings in the manual are not informative.

This is the set screw near the water intake screen. Nothing is printed in the manual except for the descrption of the part.
