48hp special shift rod screw

Old guy, but very new here, like today!

Tried a search, but was denied?

Anyway, I'm about to drop the lower unit on my 48 Special 2 stroke and the manual says to remove shift rod screw. I found the rod in question, just below the carbs and my question concerns the "screw". Do they mean the little screw that actually connect that rod to the linkage or the whole rod itself as by looking at the diagram in the manual, the upper part of that rod seems to screw into a union or connector.

Thanks in advance for any help before I completely mess things up.
