Exclamation Fuel Problem

I have a 1989 Johnson GT 150 Outboard. When you start the motor cold it starts fine and revs up Ok but when you put it in gear and try to plane out the motor stalls. If you give it just enough fuel to fast idle in gear it will run a while and then all of a sudden it will take off and run great the rest of the day.Next day it does the same thing again. Once you get it going it will run fine all day. If you take the plugs out after starting cold they seem to be covered in gas. After the motor warms it runs great. I have been told this is a compression problem but the motor runs as good as it did new and no power loss. What could be my problem?
