Old 85HP Johnson Outboard

Hi everyone,
a newbie question. I have a Johnson 85HP outboard Model Number 85ESL749
and the temperature gauge wire has been dislodged. I've been all over the engine trying to find the temperature sender unit that should be installed into the engine but have had no luck. I am tending to think that it has been removed and a bolt installed in it place.
Can some one give me an idea as to where the sender should be located from the model number above and can you describe it as looking at the motor from where the sprak plug are located

are u sure the last letter in the number isin't a [B] if it is , I have same model suggest find johnson [service manual] for that model #, found mine on e-bay, sensor on mine is, installed in cyliner head #3 to right of plug.
