Default control module

In what year did Johnson begin using an electronic control module in its outboard engines? I was told it is good to have the information from the ecm before purchasing a used outboard engine.

What year of engine are you looking at? Most of the engines use powerpacks that control spark along with the rest of the ignition system. Or are you asking when they started using ecm/on-board diagnostics?
