I have recently acquired a boat that was sitting for a number of years in my grandfathers driveway. The motor is a 35EL77C and I am currently going through and doing a little maintenance (carb kit, lower unit oil change, etc) I cannot seem to find a place to change the oil in the crankcase. I am a beginner to outboard motors, and any help or other pointers you may have as far as what to do with this boat would be greatly appreciated, thank you for your time

Welcome to outboards. The motor is a 2 stroke and does not have crankcase oil. The 2 stroke oil must be mixed in with the fuel at a 50:1 ratio. You should also change the water pump impeller (located in the lower unit).

thank you very much! i am very much looking forward to my first boating season! so what i am looking at is an oil change in the lower unit, a water pump impeller, and a carb kit, are there any other seals that i want to change right away, or only if i find something that begins to leak?

and when i disassemble the lower unit to get at the impeller are there any seals or gaskets that i will need to replace?

You should not need to change any other seals unless they are leaking. There are no gaskets required for the water pump change unless you pull the impeller plate (below the impeller).

so, just to be certain, i do not need to order the whole water pump repair kit, i only need the inpeller?

also, i have the electric start, but i would like to install a pull started to have as a backup. is this recommended, would everything fit under the housing, and do i need to do anything than order the pull starter assembly

Whether or not you need the repair kit depends on the amount of damage in the water pump. Would be a good idea to purchase the kit (which comes with the gaskets). The pull start requires a different flywheel, however the should be a groove in the electric flywheel to manually wrap a rope for emergency starting.

what brand and model spark plug should i use for my boat? and what should the gap be set at. i just want to ensure that i have the correct plug rather than just matching the one that is already in there.
