Default 1979 85hp johnson outboard problems

first of all I am new here, and after spending a couple hours on the old post here and learning alot I still need some help and have two questions. I will ask the simpler one first then the main problem.

the first problem has to do with the tilt and trim unit on my boat, it goes up fine but once in awhile it won't go down, usually if I run it up very high. is there a place to fill/check the fluid level and what type fluid should I use in it,it it a 1979 t-n-t model. thanks

Now for question #2, the boat didn't get out last year due to a back injury and yesterday I finally took her out to some water. charged the battery, fresh gas, etc before testing out. backed in the water and hooked up the gas line, pumped the bulb a couple times, turned the key and hit the choke and she purred to life, first shot! backed off the trailer and cleared the no wake zone, opened her up and she was a little sluggish but soon cleared out and was hopping for stand still to up on plane with no hesitation, then was running fast when it suddenly seemed to just power down to an idle and slowly died, hit the key and she fired right up, put her in gear and we went forward but died when I tried to give it fuel, let it idle for a while and it would leap onto plane and go about 300 yards and do it again, the key seemed to be letting it idle and burning off some gas before going again. Now I think it is loading up and could it be a stuck/sticking float? or a high speed jet plugged? sounds and acts fine when running till it just almost dies and then has to idle which it does roughly until it is ready to go again.

sorry for the long post and I would love some ideas on what to do here!
