  • 85 hp Johnson Javelin 1984-85 miss in right top cylinder

The right top cylinder has a miss...coil is good, plug is good, hot fire but still misses. The other three cylinders work fine. Could it be in carb or something internal..if internal, could it be rings ? If so, do I have to take the back of the motor off to get the pistons out. Thanks in advance for any help, James

Check the compression of all the cylinders. This will tell you if you are low on compression in that cylinder. What is the model number? Could be a carburetor problem, there should be 1 carburetor for every cylinder. Some are direct flow and others are cross flow.

Remove and clean carbs, that one may be plugged up.

That is low compression, should not be less 100PSI. Top carburetor supplies fuel to both top cylinders. This is a 1978 model 85hp

At this point you need to purchase a service manual. They can be obtained from the following link.
