I just replaced the impeller on my 1992 15 HP Johnson and buggered up the threads on the brass shift coupler. My question is: instead of buying a new coupler, can I use a longer bolt and just put a nut on it and be done with the stripped thread issue for future water pump work? I was told by a local boat shop that I shouldn't, but I think they just wanted to sell me the new coupler? Thanks
