  • Converting Tiller to Side Console

Ok gents...i know this has been asked before... I'm new here ( and fairly new to boating) and i just cant seem to find the info I need

    spring 2013, I upgraded from a 1965 14' Smokercraft (that I pretty much rebuilt) with a 15hp Johnson tiller steer to a 1988 16'Lund Mr Pike with a 40hp Johnson Tiller...
A bit of a difference to say the least lol

I would like to change my boat from a tiller steer to a side console... the console itself I can fabricate.... what I am having trouble wrapping my head around is all the steering , throttle tilt and trim parts...
Is there a kit out there one can buy that will give me all the parts I need?

    Thanks

    Ger

ok.. so managed to pick up an entire console c/w control box, steering mech and throttle/shifter cables used for $150

trim tilt hookup is plug and play fortunately, throttle is electric...easy peasy.... looking at the shifter linkage it looks a bit more complicated....... anyone have a picture of how the shifter connects at the motor?

          Thanks

            step 2

pretty sure I have figured out where my shifter cables connect tonight.. may have to lengthen one eventually... still working n my steering hookup

so i remover the shifter handle and the tiller arm... the console and steering assembly I purchased came off a 40hp Johnson... and I'm connecting to a 40hp Johnson.. so should be a straight connect right?

            Wrong....lol

Steering cable has a large nut just before the sliding arm at the motor end.... however... since I am converting from tiller to console steering it is painfully obvious that I am going to need a different strong arm bracket?

            Please help
