  • 1993 Johnson 120 Throttle adjustment

My 120 Johnson has some quirks with the throttle that seem to be getting worse. When you put it in reverse and then in neutral it doesn't come out of gear always. Most times you have to actually put in forward and then pull back to neutral before it gets out of reverse. It has done this for a while (few years). Recently, it won't start until you pull backwards on the throttle. It is like the motor thinks it is in gear unless you pull back on the throttle lever.

Are these things adjustable or is the is a symptom that something is going bad? If something is bad, what part do you think is bad. Any direction would be appreciated.

May need new shift and throttle cable, disconnect cables from engine and see if they have a lot of slack in them, if can push and pull cable end much more than a 1/4 inch replace them.
