I have 84 johnson 70 hp outboard, will not idle engine races.
I have replaced the throttle cable, it seems i need 3/4 of an inch more adjustment at the motor end of the cable. If you pull the throttle lever all the way for (on the motor) and crank the motor it idles fine but when you advance the throttle to 2 or 3000 rpms abd then pull back to neutral the motors coninues to race to 3 or 4000 rpms. If you pull the throttle lever forward (the lever on the motor) by hand the engine will idle there seems to be 3/4 in of play in the cable and this allow the spark advance to remain advanced. The butterfly valves all work as thet should the large spring on the throttle lever is fine also could the problem be in the remote control box it is in sad shape really sloppey with lots of play inside what are you thoughts if i could shorten the cable pull by 3/4 of an inch it would work great.
