  • Gasket Seal for Cover of Johnson 235HP

I need to replace the Gasket Seal under the cover of my Johnson 235HP outboard motor.

Most places that list it say it's not longer available. Is there a REPLACEMENT material (Lowes, etc.) ... or can I buy a SIMILAR gasket from a modern motor, and cut and paste. I would think that part has changed relatively little over the years. But I could be wrong.

I would appreciate any advice on this matter.

P.S. --- I am ALSO looking for Sound Deadening material for under the cover of this same engine. The original is long gone. Is there a material that will suffice that anybody KNOWS of ... which can be cut to fit and installed with Contact Cement, etc. (??).

    Order from Boats.net?

Have you tried to order one from Boats.net? I just ordered an OEM replacement seal for a 1988 Johnson 175, pretty sure they would have one for your motor as well, approx. $35! I cannot see trying to make one of these from scratch!
I also, bought a sheet of 1/2" rigid foam, foil backed insulation and the associated foil tape from Home Depot and replaced all of the engine cover foam. attached w/ spray mount contact cement then taped all the exposed seams, came out very nice!!
