  • gt150 hard cold start

I have a 1990 Johnson Gt 150 that won't start cold without cranking for an extended time. Once it does start in runs great all day. Just for grins one day I heated the motor with a torpedo heater for 20 min. and it started right up. Pleas whats going on?

Thanks for any help P.S. I forgot to state that there is no spark when cold. new plugs , new coils. When it does start it starts on 2 cyl, then picks up other cyls.

I don't know where you applied the heat you speak of. But, it sounds like the power pack or the charge coil is failing at low temps. You need to do some analysis to see if it starts right away as soon as the spark finally appears. If that is the case, you have an ignition problem - not a fuel and/or enrichment problem. Actually, you have an ignition problem anyway, obviously, from your description.
