  • Converting 1991 johnson 6hp to 8 hp

Hi I know this topic has come up with various models. Mine is a J6REIA and I want to make it an 8. The manifold and leaf assembly appears to be the same between the models. The main differences I see are the high speed orifice and the nozzle well. I'm confused about the high speed because when looking at the 8hp high speed it states that it is also used on my 6hp although the part numbers are different. Don't want to buy it if I don't have to. The nozzle well I will have to buy. Can anyone confirm for me that the "also used on this model " list is accurate when listed below a part? Thanks

Looking further into it seems like I need the carb from a 8 hp 91 or 92 model not just the carb parts

The intake manifold is the same. The exhaust is the same. The carb is bigger on the 8. Also the crankcase and the cylinders are different between the 6 and the 8 hp. Is that a dealbreaker? I can get the 8 hp carb but with the different crankcase and cylinder will I even see any increase in speed ? Please give me some input people Thanks

Anyone? The 6 and the 8hp are the same ,just the carb is bigger in the 8 and they have different parts for the crank/cylinder. So if I put a 8hp carb on will I gain any speed? Help please
