  • 1995 200HP Johnson Oceanrunner Fuel Burn?

I am considering buying a 1995 GW 272 Sailfish rigged with twin 200hp Johnson Oceanrunners. I realize these are gas hogs but, I am trying to get a real idea of fuel burn. I dont run boats WOT. I am ok with a comfortable cruise of 3200-3800rpm. Would it be safe to say I should achieve 1.3-1.5mpg total 2 motors) based on a normal day of cruising and trolling? Or a better question; with this setup what should the range of 200 gallons of fuel get me?

I've got twin 140's on my 26' cat (fuel and oil injection- no carbs). I can run 5K out 50 miles, troll for bout 8 hrs, and return at 5K RPMs, and use right at 175 gals of fuel ( in fair 2' - 3', or less seas). When I had carbs on different 140's, I had to have an additional 12 gals for each motor for a similar fishing trip.

I'm not sure if there's a good comparison here, because I don't know your boat, or the fuel consumption of your motors. The only way to truly know, is to top your tanks off, run them a good few hrs for a certain distance, return and top the tanks off again. Variables are important too, such as a fully loaded boat, number of passengers, and winds/ waves against the boat do affect mileage.

Many of the newer age, 2010, and later, series motors 4 strokes can operate with the NEMA 2000 gauge system, and can tell you exactly how much fuel each of your motors are using.

    Good luck.
