  • 88 150 looper misses at varied RPM's

Hello. new to forum, so forgive me if I screw something up.

Bought this boat a couple of months ago. ran a little rough at certain RPM's until I got through a couple of tanks of gas, then ran like a champ. Ran great last night!
This morning took boat out and missing all over the place...at all rpms. It will get up to speed but at any given RPM it will act as if key is turned of and on real quickly. Does this about every 5 seconds.

Background as I know it. One power pack replaced in 08 and other is original via inspection. All Ground wires appear to be clean and tight.

Pumping primer ball at any speed does no good to help issue.

Compression as it should be per test.

VRO pump was removed (before me) and now premix.

Let me know if I am missing something. Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance!

My 1996 48 SPL does the same thing. I've replaced the entire fuel system and it still does it. Looking electrical now and will post back if I figure it out. Lot of people are having this issue but can't figure it out or just don't post that they have. Good luck and let me know if you solve it please.

I'm thinking it might be your trigger coil/ timing coil acting up. Could use a timing light, check fire for each cylinder at TDC. Mark tdc (top dead center) for each cylinder on flywheel ( 1,2,3, etc) add water, start, and test timing for each cylinder. If good it will fire at tdc for each cylinder smoothly in same place. If bad (peak voltage test next check), one or more cylinders may fire at different locations (bounce around) flywheel, instead of where tdc should be.

Good luck. Post back if find anything.
