  • 1984 Johnson 90hp vro spark plug ?

Hi, new to the forum. I was given an allumacraft with a 84 Johnson 90hp vro. The spark plugs that were in it are champion L76v. All the charts show champion L77JC4 are the correct ones. Ran it twice on the plugs it came with but I want to change them out. I don't know the maintenance record on this motor. Is there any good explanation why the wrong plugs would have been used( different heads installed etc.)and do you think it hurt the motor? Any help would be appreciated thanks

Might go to a parts place and look at the two plugs, then ask them if any significant difference in the two, if they look same? My thought, they didn't have exact plug called for, so they substituted something close?

    Good luck.

The l76v is a surface gap and the ql77c4 is conventional gap witch seams a little longer after the threads. Don't know if it would hit piston.

If the motor has been turned over, or run with the plugs in it, and not flattened, I would say they didn't hit the pistons. You are wise to use the proper plugs that the specs call for in that motor. They are generally the right temp range and fire power the motor requires to run the best.

        Good luck.
