  • Installing rectifier on a 1980"s Johnson outboard

Hi . My name is Mathew and I'm from Australia. I'm just wondering if anyone could show me a wiring diagram on how to to wire a rectifier on to a 1980"s Johnson 40hp pull start outboard . I want to use the voltage off the outboard to charge a battery that will run all of my electronics. I just need a diagram or someone to talk to me about it . I have the regulator but not sure how to wire it in . Any help would be appreciated

    Cheers

Matthew, a service manual would give you the schematics you need. But if your stator doesn't have the proper charging coils (some pull start motors did not include charging coils), that may have to be changed also. The charging coils came on the electric start models. Ask a local dealer what you need to change to do what you want, then order online.
Also, check the flywheel part #, to make sure it was used with both, electric start and non-electric start models.

    Good luck.
