1972 85hp Voltage Issue

I have a 72 85hp that is giving me between 15vDC at idle and 22vDC at higher RPM.

From what I understand I need to check the AC voltage coming out of the stator, but what voltage am I looking for?

The boat runs great otherwise. No misfire, and no acceleration problems.

AC voltage.

But, the rectifier converts the AC volts to DC volts, and the regulator controls the amount of DC volts. In the newer motors, the rectifier and regulator are one unit, you have to replace them both, if having problems.

If you have voltage coming from stator, it is probably ok.
