Hi, I would appreciate any help or suggestions.
I have a 1969 33 HP johnson motor. All season long it has been running great. I took it out yesterday and at half throttle it would work great, but whenever I tried to go full throttle it would change rpm's quickly. It would rev up, and slow down, rev up and slow down.
I thought it was just my fuel mix so I took it out again today with the fuel mixed better, but now it revs and slows even at half throttle, and I have to run it at about 1/3 throttle.
A few things I think it could be are fuel mix, dirty carb, overheating, or loss of oil in the reservoir. I also just learned that I need to be using premium gasoline. Could any of these things cause the boat to run like that, and get worse over time?
I would appreciate any help, as I know very little about 2 cycle engines.
