  • 150 HP Johnson Outboard

My motor starts and idles fine but when I try to get up to speed it bogs down and quits
I purchased a new fuel bulb but just like the old one it will not get firm when I squeeze it I checked it when I was on the lake after the motor had quit and it was nearly completely collasped

Based on what you mentioned about the squeeze-bulb being almost completely collapsed... my first thoughts are that something may be clogging the fuel line between the bulb and the fuel tank.

If it were me, I'd look to determine if there may be a blockage of some sort within the pickup tube inside the tank (i.e. clogged filter screen?).

Or.. if the fuel line is of the older rubber type, it may have suffered internal deterioration (from today's ethanol fuels).. and potentially sloughed-off inner material which could be clogging/blocking flow between the tank and the squeeze-bulb.

It could also relate to a blocked water separator filter, should remove and pour into clean glass jar to see what comes out? If trash, or water do not run motor until fuel system is flushed thoroughly. It could be WHERE you purchased last fuel from if trash in fuel?

If fuel sat up for couple months (ethanol), it may have phase separation occurring (usually a yellowish watery color), and fuel is not good.

      Good luck.
