I've had this 100esl72r for six years; ran great for the first four, but have had an issue for the last two. And NO one seems to want to fix it but me. The shops I've taken it to.... never mind, not interested in raising my blood pressure venting here!! Why I didn't investigate the problem myself isn't relevant at this point, either.

Anyway... bought this motor for parts from the scrap yard - it isn't stolen, they ran the numbers. Imagine my surprise when I pulled the flywheel off!!!

Can you guess the model year? it's a 115esl70d ooops! just told ya!
45/6 years old and never been spun! At least, no more than to fog it.

They broke one of the lifting eye bolts loading it

She's a bit dirty on the outside - the cowling has been off, probably for a good while. I haven't had the chance to do anything to it yet. Definitely a priority, just other life stuff going on....

No indication a prop's ever been on it, either; never mounted etc... Had it chained up (Python) in back of my truck until I had time to build a stand. It was totally not in my plans for this!!!!

PS: the pictures in back of my truck were taken a month ago and the rest of them last week; not in 1970.

my '72 is pretty much the same as the 115 as far as external parts. A shop had put on that stator (used), there was nothing wrong with mine; probably just because he had one on the shelf he needed to get rid of..... pffffft!

***** the following is about my 100esl72r
I found a "brand new still in the box Dcap" on ebay, which I kinda needed - could tell a big difference in throttle response. Plus a new fuel pump, my cover was cracked.

Going back through their work when I installed new Dcap, found cracked insulation on the stator as the wires go into it. Repaired with liquid tape. And timing sensor eye was dirty; cleaned it and trigger/timing base.

At this point, it ran great... almost! Once it got warmed up, it would shut off like you turned the key off - would restart immediately, maybe continue to run or just shut off.

I found the shift wires to be bare where they go through hole underneath motor. Took lu off to replace a section of wire(s) and found idiot to have not tightened impeller housing bolts!! I AM DONE with letting other people work on my stuff period!! Just haven't had the time but will MAKE/TAKE the time from now on.

They changed the lu oil, but I thought to drain it anyway just because. Damn glad I did because a good amount of water came out first, but the oil was new. I had run a bottom tap in bolt holes and put everything back as removed, so I'm not certain what was missed. Don't think it was anything I did to cause water in lu? And it's only been run on muffs for 20 minutes tops.

spent about an hour on the initial cleaning and figured out what's wrong with this motor; the flywheel's no good, no rope
