New to the forum,
Im looking at purchasing a used Johnson outboard, here is the issue. My local dealer is convinced, (without looking at it) that it is a 40 hp at the head. According to a phone call with Evinrude it is a 60 at the head, 40 at the pump. Im getting alot of conflicting info and just dont know where to turn. Any help would be much appreciated. I want to buy this and put it on my boat and do it right, 1 time and be done. I need 35-40 hp at the pump, not the head. How else can I confirm for sure? I did look at your formulas for the model numbers and I come up with 40 at the pump, but Im super gun shy as I dont want to buy the wrong motor and be stuck with trying to sell it. Model is j40jplsia
Thanks for some guidance as Im newish at this.
Thank you
