Help! I have a 99 carb 225 Johnson Ocean Pro that was recently rebuilt (18 hours ago) due to a cracked piston crown. Before the rebuild it did following but after rebuild it is worse: When you advance through 2400 to 2800 rpm to get the boat on plane, the vibration is incredible and you hear a horrific metal on metal sound. Seems to run perfect above & below that range. Last day out it wouldn't advance past that range until I turned it off and on several times. Then again before and after that range ran fine. Then it did it again. Dealer who did rebuild came and said its in the lower after he did all kinds of adjustments and we ran it with the same result. Took it out of water and my independent outboard mechanic went through it and says the lower is fine (changed and found no metal in lower unit oil; compression and all rebuild perfect; fuel lines clear, etc). Any ideas or anyone had similar issue? This is my 1st Johnson and I understood this vintage, (carbed) to be "bulletproof" (just not for me maybe). Appreciate any constructive input. Thanks.

You might check the flywheel magnets, if loose could be making that sound and throw balance out. Also, may have some type of intermittent timing issue that only happens at that specific rpm range?

    Good luck.
