  • 86 Johnson 150 compression after rebuild??

Tell me if I should be as nervous as I am lol. I've not started the 86 150 since the partial rebuild (rings, seals, gaskets). All surfaces prepped with care, torque process followed step by step with a high quality wrench. Pistons went right back in the hole they came from. Turning the cranks yields zero binding. The readings I am getting with all plugs out are anywhere from 83-85 lbs. this is prior to starting and running the engine. I did not see much in the Seloc manual in regards initial compression numbers and whether they may change once the new rings are broke in. I chose not to have the heads machined at this time, but interested in your all thoughts. Thanks

The V6 engines straight from the factory when I was working on them (retired now) would be 95 psi on the starboard bank and 90 on the port bank. The 5 psi difference due to the design of the engine.

You're pretty close to that and the rings aren't seated yet. Could even be higher with a different gauge. Sounds good to me.
