  • Propeller size and pitch

Hi, I have a 2002 Johnson 50hp 2 stroke on my 19' Seaway cuddy cabin. I know the boat is way under powered, but I'm not ready to get a new engine yet. The boat runs and planes OK when I'm out alone (23 mph, 5,400 rpm). The problem is when I have 4-5 people on board, which is most of the time (12 mph, 4,200 rpm). I don't expect the boat to plane with a heavy load but I'm hoping to get a couple more mph out of it with a prop change. Right now it has a 12 1/4" x 15" aluminum prop. I'm thinking of going to a 13" pitch and would appreciate any advice anyone might have. I did a quick search and saw 12 1/2" x 13" props. Will these work with my engine? I know that I'll give up some top speed when I have a light load.
