    hi, new to forum.
I have a 90hp 2002 Johnson, last time out it kept stopping when I throttled back then difficult to restart. after hours stripping carbs etc I found one of the pipes to the electric choke split, on replacing this the engine ran perfect, nice and smooth thru rev range, not a cough or splutter just perfect. boat been laid up since for 6 weeks. I thought I'd start it up on muffs as I wanting to use last week and it starts ok, ticks over ok, revs ok up to 2300rev then just coughs holds back wont really rev. What could have gone wrong through not using?
I've got new fuel, new plugs, new fuel lines and primer, carbs been cleaned(not dirty at all) Could a part of the electrical system have broken down ie power pack or stator or coils??? Will be doing a compression test and checking pressure to fuel pump later today. Is there anything else I can check before buying new parts?
    thanks Mike

Sitting for just 6 weeks shouldn't bother the engine.

However, things do go bump in the night! First thing to do is to check the compression and spark.... all s/plugs removed doing the tests.

Could be an ignition failure, a high speed jet got fouled, that sort of thing.

NOTE: Racing a engine on a flushette is inviting a runaway engine. By the time you figured out how to shut it down, connecting rods would be flying out the side of the crankcase. Not a good idea to exceed 1500 rpm on a flushette.
