  • Johnson 1996 J40TLEUC Part Identification?

I have been learning about and tuning a Johnson 1996 J40TLEUC I recently purchased but no matter how many service manuals I study, cannot determine what these parts are?

The engine has been running (albeit with somewhat poor idle) however I just noticed that these connections pictured were not connected. The wiring shot (with the purple beige and black wires) shows them connected now but they had small plastic bags covering each end.

The shot from the rear showing the single beige wire with a rubber grommet and a flat metal connection cap at the end (also shown connected) was also not attached.

I have connected these for the pictures but do not want to start the motor until I understand if they had been disconnected for an important reason.

    Thanks in advance!

The 1st picture "appears" to be the wiring connector that normally leads to the VRO pump...... Do you mix the oil with the gas or are you using a separate oil tank and depending on the VRO to do the mixing?

The 2nd picture "appears" to be the overheat sensor. To test the circuit... ground that wire to the powerhead and with the key in the "ON" position (engine NOT running), the warning horn should be sounding constantly.

What excuse did the seller of the engine give for having these wires disconnected?
