1992 ocean runner 200 suddenly will not shift into fwd or rev.shift cable is moving shift lever on powerhead but shift rod going down to lower unit is not moving.evidently something in linkage has come loose or broke.any tips before I tear into it?

You have solved your own problem.... you know exactly what the problem is. Now, you just need to trace the linkage movements to the point where they do not move.
This is a first... a problem that I have never encountered UNLESS one has had the lower unit off and did not reconnect the shift rod at the top shift hole properly when reinstalling.
