  • Parts Question

I took the power head off in order to inspect an exhaust leak. During the process I found that the wire that connects between the steering arm, and mounting bracket is broken. I'm wondering what purpose this little wire serves... Is it essential to the correct operation of the motor?

It is part #102 here in the page, OMC # 0582494

It is strictly a ground wire to help eliminate electrolysis (corrosion), static electricity (minor shocks) that sort of thing. It has nothing to do with the performance of the engine. If you trailer the rig... no big deal. If you wet store the rig at a marina... run another wire.
