  • Shift Rod Height need help

Hi I have a Johnson 115HP 1973 model 115ESL73M long I had my lower unit off to replace some leaking seals and I must have changed my shift rod height I did make it shift correctly only by almost maxing out the cable adjustment does anyone know the correct height for my shift rod I'd like put it back where it belongs I have seen the posting list that's on many sights but it doesn't show the height for a 1973 V4.
    any help would be appreciated

Without cracking the books, it seems to me that the 1973 115 shift rod has a threaded top that a barrel like fitting screws onto it. If so, simply screw it all the way down, then back it up just enough so that it is facing forward properly, that being the highest portion facing forward.

Make sure that the nylon bushing is in that barrel like fitting as without it... it is impossible to adjust the shift properly due to the play at that point.

That's because there is no measurement (shift rod height) on that model, However you would think they would include some mention as to the placement of that top barrel of the shift rod.

Don't neglect to include that small nylon bearing/bushing in that barrel. It is an absolute needed part!

mine doesn't have a nylon bushing but my OMC parts manual for this engine doesn't show one. I checked marine engine they didn't show one either. is there some pace I can get the part number?
