  • 1999 200 dies as soon as i hit the throttle

I have a 1999 J200PXEEB, that will idle fine in the water all day long. As soon as I try to take off, motor bogs down and dies. No cracked lines or air leaks anywhere I can find. Carbs were just rebuilt by a reputable dealer. Any suggestions? New to me motor, had carbs rebuilt as a precautionary measure.

Throttle cam roller should be about 3/8" in diameter... check to see if the outer portion cracked off, and if so, replace it.

Throttle butterflies should just start to open when the scribe mark of the cam is dead center with the throttle roller.

Check to see if the timer base under the flywheel is sticking (retarded spark).

Check the high speed jets (6 of them)... carefully clean them with a piece of single strand steel wire as solvent and pressurized air just doesn't do that job properly. (quite often overlooked).

I will check this tomorrow. Also bought a new hose, going to try from a external tank to motor to see if there is a problem from my tank.

new guy here, same problem with 25 johnson 1999

hi all, thanks in advance for assistance, and forgive any protocol mistakes, as i'm new to forum.
i have the same problem with a 25, starts great, idles fine, stalls for no reason when trying to get up on plane, as well as sometimes when running along on plane.
i'm wondering about the two fuel pumps at this point. manual shows them as two different pumps which cannot be switched, but they look exactly the same to me. no identifiers on them. any thoughts appreciated.
