no compression in one cylinder

I have a 1973 Johnson 9.5 hp outboard. fresh gas it fired up and ran for about a hour or so. was at dock and wouldn't start again. I have gas going to carburetor, good spark with new plugs and still wont start. checked the compression and have no compression in the top cylinder and around 80 psi in bottom one...don't know where to turn. any suggessions would be greatly appreciated

Remove the cylinder head so that you can inspect the cylinder, piston, sealing surfaces of the head and block, and especially the head gasket. This would be the first step.
