  • Hi all

    Hi everyone. Glad to be part of the forum. I will get straight to my question. I have acquired a 1951 tn 27, I need to rebuild the starter recoil assembly everywhere I look I can not find an assembly like this one it has the 3 dogs attached to a center ring with three springs. Can anyone direct me to a diagram and or parts source for that type of recoil. All the ones I've seen have a metal plate with fingers on the recoil that contact dogs on the flywheel ( the reverse of what I have). My flywheel has the point setting hole in it. Any help would be appreciated

    What, in particular do you need to know about that manual starter?

      Well I've taken it apart briefly just to see what it looked like, the three springs that attach the dogs to the center are all different sizes. So I would need part number for the three springs. Then there is the part the three springs attach to, there is a spring under that. I'm assuming that spring put tension to pull the dogs I need that spring as it's sheered in two.

      Side question, could I replace the 3 springs with metal rods for better mechanical operation?

      A parts diagram or full manual for a tn 27 would help, as I could see if any washers are missing in the assembly also.

        After searching a bit more someone on eBay has a listing for one for $125.00 I'm not paying that when a few springs would probably cost around 5 bucks here's what I'm looking at that I need the parts for:.

        The picture is from the eBay listing, I need the three dog springs and I guess it's the "cam" spring under the cam the dogs attach to

          TN27 = 1950/51 5hp Johnson

          If the pulley turns with that retaining screw tightened (from what I see), nothing is missing.

          The special springs must absolutely be used as does the larger friction spring.

          Small springs 202155 - $18.96ea as of 2010

          Friction spring 302222 - $14.75 - as of 1992

          I have a few of each left in my remaining stock... If you're in the states, make a reasonable offer if interested.
