    Johnson 2015 15hp Water Pump Housing

    My water pump overhaul kit arrived today. But the housing is not flat! It rocks on a flat surface by around 1mm or so.

    Is this a problem?

    I was thinking about sanding it flat, or at least flatter, using a sheet of fine sandpaper on a benchtop. But maybe that's not necessary?

    I'm worried the housing would crack or distort when pulled down by the clamping bolts.

    Good advice appreciated.

    Send it back for a replacement.... do not try to sand or try to repair the fault.

    I suggest you contact them first though.

      I've contacted my place of purchase (MarineEngine.com) to see what they can offer.

      Jeez I get frustrated when this type of crap makes it's way out of the factory!

        MarineEngine.com is top notch in my book, they'll treat you right. Unfortunately or fortunately, however one looks at it..... most items are boxed, so once it gets by quality control at manufacturing, it just zips thru everywhere until it gets to the customer.
