  • just craps out

My 1975 ,70 hs Evenrude starts and runs strong for awhile 20 t0 30 min, then it just quits, full throttle scraeming down the river and it just quits. No sputter farts nothing, just like you reached up and shut the key off, if you let it cool down for thirty to forty minutes it will start up and run again, only to quit again after a few minutes. It doesn't have any sighns of overheating, the feul system seams to be funtioning just fine. I replaced the power pack and rectifier and it continues to show the same symtoms. Anybody have ideas as to what is going on?

Visually check the stator under the flywheel closely to see if it's cracked or there's a sticky looking substance dripping out of it down on the powerhead area (Meltdown).

That would result in a AC voltage drop to the powerpack capacitor, needed to energize the pack.

Such a failure usually allows the stator to function properly until it gets hot... and that area is the hottest portion of the engine... just try to hold you hand on the flywheel after 20 minutes or so of running. When hot, with this type failure, the ignition is usually weak, erratic, and eventually fails.

Let us know what you find.
