  • Johnson 2001 15HP Thermostat (Vernatherm) Testing

I'm getting closer to water testing my 2001 15HP Johnno.

My thermostat parts showed up in the mail today

I'd like to test the thermostat by bringing it to the boil in water. But is that a good idea?

The part looks a bit fragile. It's hidden in the pic, but it looks like the brass pin in the end might fire out. If so, the thermostat could be a paper weight.

Boiling water not needed... just hot!. The thermostat normally opens at about 143 degrees or so. The pin in the thermostat just sits in there (removable)... don't lose it! If the thermostat is brand new... no need to test it.
