  • 50Hp Johnson Pivot Pin

Think I really screwed up. When changing the lower unit I took out the Pivot pin (phillips screw) by mistake. Can not get it to go back in. Any suggestions from the Forum. Thanks in advance To clarify I was just trying to change the gear oil for winter.

Unless you've been shifting back and forth, and sometimes even if you have... with a beam type flashlight and a small diameter punch, you can raise the inner lever so that the hole in it lines up enough so that having a sharp sloping edge to that pivot screw will allow you to wiggle it back in place.

I've done it successfully with the engine hanging vertically on the boat... BUT... there have been times when it became a bench job... the lower unit laying horizontally before I could get that inner lever to stay put.

At any rate I wish you luck. Let us know how you make out.

It worked. Thank you so much Joe for your answer. I used a ice pick and was able to line up the pin and the screw went right in. As they say I dodge a bullet on this one. Just like the first time everyone forgets there drain plug I learn a valuable lesson and will not do that again.

Just want to say thanks again Joe
