  • 84 Johnson 50 Water Leak?

I have a new to me 84 J50BELCRM 50 hp motor that I am getting up and running after sitting for a year. I noticed that a stream of water was coming from a small horseshoe cutout at the front joint of the exhaust housing and gearcase(lower unit). The cutout is ~2mm and is on the exhaust housing and appears to be a factory machined hole. I'm in the process of replacing the water pump assy(impeller, housing, all seals and gaskets) and noticed the Gasket that seals the exhaust water between the E. housing and lower unit was less than pristine. When the motor is running with muffs, water comes out from both the pee hole and this hole with the same intensity and then drains from this hole after shut off. I don't know if this is normal or if I should seal this hole. Any help or observations would be appreciated.

That is normal and should not be sealed.
