Went out the other day in the Great South Bay ,I noticed that the tachometer was going haywire, but the motor itself was running fine.I assumed it was a loose wire on the back of the tach....Never assume. I stopped to do some fluke fishing. When i tried to start it again,it would crank , get fuel but not start. After about 2 hours of trying to start it I called seatow. After getting the boat back to my house.I removed the air box, shot some starter fluid in and it started.I let it run for a bit when running the tach was not working now.I shut it off,and that was it.It would not start, and now I have no spark at the plugs.I let it sit for a day.The next day iwas trying to start it again,i was cranking it at no more than 10 second bursts. Then the starter just stopped working.I am hearing the soilenoid click, but no starter activity.Sounds like a compounded electrical problem, but could it be low presssure in the VRO pump?.Help!!!!!!! P.S. There is no water in the gas

It could be the rect/reg assembly. Check the batteries for a good charge. You may have burned up the starter. You can test all ignition components except the rect/reg and powerpack.

      Thanks!

First of all ,Thanks for the reply...I did some detective work today on the starter, and the brushes were shot.I bought a rebuild brush kit for $25.The boat fired right up. I took it out,and it ran fine. The Tachometer needle moves slightly when I turn the key to the on position, but still does not work, but the low oil, hot, etc indicators still light up,and the alarm bell some times does a quick chirp but does not BEEEEP like it used to.This still makes me wary of overheating.I still need to check all of the wiring behind the tach, but could it be the tach itself. Is that were the alram bell speaker is housed? Thanks again for all of the help.

No the alarm is housed by the ignition switch usually. Tach can be bad, but make sure you are getting a signal from the tach wire.
