I'm having problems with the motor staying in forward gear under a load,
at idle speed everything is good, but as soon as I give it very much throttle it wants to "sort of jump out of gear". I disassembled the lower gear unit, the pinion drive gear and both forward / reverse gears look good. The shifter dog is showing a "little" ware - - - how much is too much ?? The shifter dog also has some (what looks like) oiling grooves machined on one side, I didn't pay close attention as to which way it goes on the prop shaft , does the grooved side go toward the forward gear or the reverse gear ??

Probably has worn clutch dog and forward gear, You will probably notice the corners are more rounded or worn on one side of clutch dog more than other side, forward gear as well.
