  • Water pump replacement on Johnnson 150

    Hello Fellow Boaters....
I'm trying to change the water pump/impeller on a 2001 Johnson 150, model RJ150VXSIF. I removed the two bolts on each side of the lower unit, removed the trim tab and the bolt that was hidden under it, and also removed the bolt on the tail end of the lower unit.
Problem - I can't get it to separate. I read somewhere that I might have to disconnect the shift rod - somehow? Is there a clip or a bolt I'm missing???
I have a Clymer manual for the engine - not much help. Can anyone help in letting me know where to go from here??

The Clymer manual should show you where to disconnect shift shaft, it disconnects from top of shaft( under carbs).

Clymer stinks, need to get a real manual.

Found the gearshift linkage under the carbs, and except for bumping the linkage when re-installing the lower unit causing no neutral gear the first time, all went well. Thanks for the tips
