Need some help, please! 79 Johnson 175 HP. Pulled the top and bottom carbs to replace all fuel lines. New carb to manifold gaskets installed. Didn't do anything to carbs. Linkage is free, and appears to be correct. Throttle cam is not touching linkage. Throttle butterflies closed fully. Carbs synced. cannot find any air leaks at base of carbs. Advance is bottomed out. Motor was idling fine, on muffs, five minutes before I pulled the carbs. Motor is now idling at about 1700-2200 rpm on muffs. Could it be a stuck float, something else? Any ideas? Thank you!

It could be a linkage problem, take all linkage loose from carbs to see if it will idle down, could be an air leak check carb flange gaskets, look to see if an recirculating hose on intake manifold got disconnected by mistake. Could be one carb running too rich causing it run high rpm's.

Thanks for your feedback. I have taken all linkage loose a number of times and manually closed the carbs. I can't find any air leaks, having sprayed all gaskets and hoses with carb cleaner. I tried to handle the carbs carefully while they were off, but I did turn them upside down to drain them. Is it possible that something came loose or got stuck inside the carbs that would cause a carb to run rich? If a float stuck open for example? Thanks, again.

Nothing in carb should have came loose or stuck but it may have. Normally when carb floods you can see excess fuel in throat of carb when pumping primer bulb.
