  • 1994 70hp J70TLERV Bogs and Dies When I Open the Throttle

I have a 70 hp that I let sit for a year. I replaced the plugs, gave it fresh gas, and it started right up in my driveway with clamped-on water, was able to rev it all the way up, if only briefly. When I put it in the water, however, when I accelerate, it bogs down and dies. I was told this might be a "secondary failing to open...?" Any ideas? No starting issues -- fires right up first try.

Thanks in advance. This is my last ditch attempt to get it going before I take it in to the shop -- which currently has a waiting list through the summer!

Sounds like starving for fuel. Probably need to remove and clean carbs.

boats.net -- I pulled the cover and examined the carbs and they look pristine. I suppose there's always more there than I can see from there, but no carbon build up at all -- is that what I should see if it's the carbs?

The problem would be plugged passages or jets inside carb. It would have to be removed, taken apart and cleaned.
