Help & Engine Analysis: 1988 6 HP 2 Stroke

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a 1988 Johnson 6 HP 2 Stroke (j6rccs)

It runs & fires right up, however, it has brown stuff coming out into the water when running it.

It looks like a mix of gas, oil, & water that is floating on the surface of the water in my bucket.

Has anyone had an engine similar to this where this was normal? Any ideas on what the issue might be?

My best guess was to replace the gaskets in the engine block anticipating there was a failed seal somewhere for gas & water

Could be unburned gas/oil mix, carb needing to be cleaned, not running on all cylinders. Could be leaking seal on lower unit leaking gearcase oil.
