I put gear in forward instead of reverse before changing water pump. After reassemble motor only goes in reverse? How do I remedy this?

What motor is it? If has splined shift shaft then remove lower unit and put gearcase and shift linkage in neutral and reinstall lower unit.
If has push/pull shift shaft then will need to check shift shaft height measurement. -
